imo, regulators must consider this

i would be interested to see lifeline correlation between:
- people who smoked cigarettes with 'cancer' pictures on packages
- people who smoked without looking at sick people

smoking kills, no doubt.
but we probably should not help it.

this is literally the beginning of the 「 smart gel 」 from Peter Watts’ “Rifters” series

the one which preferred simple answers to complex ones 🌚

no further spoilers.

i see. those are definitely problems which should be addressed, but i think they don’t have a simple answers. you probably can’t just build through private property, and the selling price for the patches there will be sky high. seems like a tough situation to be in.

these are the 10 years they used to decompose what was working and apparently used money elsewhere. ;D they made money with investments and other activities, forgetting that they have to provide transportation in the first place.

i haven’t been in US yet, but i presume that the enormous size of the country can be one of the reasons? the residential areas are not so packed as in Europe (which is in my opinion the way to go if you have so much space as in the US), so it is rather hard to cover them all with a rail network?

running perfectly on time - that what people used to say about Deutsche Bahn 10 years ago. since then a series if mismanagement resulted in rather rapid decline of the train system. now you can’t rely on train much, as you can almost for sure tell - it either will be canceled or late.

there is also Swiss train, which allegedly also extraordinary punctual. i’ve heard in a news block, that they have spare trains on the border with Germany, so that if the train operated by Deutsche Bahn is running late, they don’t screw up their customers further along the way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

in Germany - they used to, not anymore, unfortunately. i didn’t live in other countries of Europe long enough to tell about those.
