I appreciate that Coach Rodriguez wants his team to portray a certain image. But as we've seen from Travis Hunter to Jared McCain, dancing on TikTok is no indication of a lack of athletic prowess.

In launching this investigation, UF creates a chilling effect that will reverberate across campus and could violate the 1A, even if no discipline is sentenced. FIRE has contacted Dr. Rathore and will continue to monitor this case and hold public institutions accountable.

While UF says Dr. Rathore’s posts “fall outside of free speech protections applicable to public employees or violate state or federal law,” this slapdash analysis does not hold under First Amendment scrutiny. There is no First Amendment exception for offensive speech.
