@19thcenturybucs.bsky.social
Fan of all eras of Pittsburgh baseball history. Posts likely on the really old, replies and reposts all over the place. This account is run, for better or worse, by SABR member Andy Terrick.
Will Sidney Applebaum be there?

@mattalbertson.bsky.social In the 1889 book ‘Our Police;,’ on p249 is an image of a rogue’s gallery. Caught the writing in the lower left hand corner. Don’t know why you’ll ever need it, but sending your way just in case.

Thanks to all the Veterans out there. Here are a few from the early days of the Pirates organization and Pittsburgh baseball, including Al Scandrett, Al Pratt, William Coates, and Phil Auten (pretty sure he’s there, we just have no clue who he is)

Don’t think this is quite #SABRLandmarks worthy until there’s a plaque, but awesome to see anyway. Always love new Keystones content. Here’s Hill batting many moons later, (around 1920), as seen in The Competitor magazine, Vol. III No. 3.

1890s bopper Elmer 'Mike' Smith. We know they called him Mike, though we don't really know why.

Not finding images of the people that seem lost to history, but am coming across new images of those that are already known. Take for instance, William Coates, ‘manager’ for a time of the 1877 Allegheny team. Here he is from an 1889 book called ‘Our Firemen.’

What I’m really rooting for.

A couple of '59s that have seen better days free to some one

I always get confused because I think this pic is actually from a game further on in the series.

HOF or not, I'm always gonna be #TeamChicle.

Probably repeating myself, but:

Doing some 1927 World Series research. Have that sense that @olbermann.bsky.social knows exactly where these balls are.

I realize it was meant for attention-getting purposes, but $750 still seems like a lot of money for 1927.

I like how it talks about the 'new Three Rivers Stadium,' considering the thing has been gone for 25 years now. Future generations will have to rely on @wikipedia.org to understand the reference.

Love seeing 'Sure Shot,' even if he was prob not the greatest guy and likely didn't want to be here.

My contribution to this post, from the gorgeous 55/56 Parkhurst set. Was great for getting autographs, though most old timers were long gone before I got into it (including Harvey).

Imminent update to the @sabrlandmarks.bsky.social spreadsheet: the new Pittsburgh Walk of Fame (unveiled today) features Roberto Clemente. Hoping Honus Wagner is soon to follow.

These three Kings are all that there are,
No more kings from near or afar.

(Except maybe Lee)

Someone was absolutely thinking about lighting up once the photographer left.

Really should coordinate with some Louisville folks to place a wreath at Harry Pulliam's grave. Going to guess no one has done it as outlined since the first time 116 years ago, but could be a nice tradition to start back up.

24 hours ago I hadn't heard of Mr. Vail. Realizing that I was only a few stops on NJ Transit away, today I visited his grave.

Was looking for local TV news coverage online of today's anniversary celebration. I'm sure it'll be out there eventually, but struck out thus far.

Although, I do see there are other important matters...
