In her latest book, Can Feminism be African?, Minna Salami speaks of Shakara Feminism 💃🏾

A feminism of audacity and disobedience. Powerful, serious, playful, sensual, authentic.

✨ What words would you add to describe Shakara feminism?

One of the women, Marie Koré, is our inspiration here in 1949.

In 1949, in an act of public maternity, Marie Koré, Odette Ekra, Anne-Marie Raggi, and thousands of other women marched on the Grand Bassam prison. The first march ended in victory: the liberation of Marcelline Sibo; the second march accelerated the process of independence for the Ivory Coast.

We are making use of the time that roadworks are taking place in front of the library - making access difficult but not impossible - to do some renovation works too.

Can't wait to unveil!!!
