The DC-media consensus is: Republicans are implacable, a force like a hurricane, just gonna do what they’re gonna do, so there’s no point in putting pressure on them, whereas it’s on Democrats to run the government and stop any shutdown.
Most voters were not fooled by this! Many D Senators were.

Hassan: My vote was to do two things: 1) Make sure the government is functioning… 2) continue the fight to a realistic platform to get the premium tax cuts done. If that is not successful, then shame on the Republican Party and shame on Donald Trump.

We can use phrases like “out of touch” and “rot in the upper eschelons” and it’s all absolutely accurate & depressing.
But to me the simplest lesson of this particular shutdown cave is simply that these Senators are more stuck than their voters are within mainstream-media-DC-consensus assumptions.
