...that would be me. Sound engineer, theatre tech, music lover, geek & bar, Buffy / Supernatural / Doctor Who / Blake's 7 fan, writer of fiendish quizzes, cat person. she/her. Hello.
I have spent so long working backstage in a theatre that I have learnt to laugh in complete silence, but that made me laugh so loudly I startled my colleagues. Trying to type this through the tears in my eyes...

Could this be the first sighting in the wild of the rare Adorable Stripy Ammonite?

It's transparent all right. We can see straight through it.

Saturnalia, by Lindsey Davis. (for at least the fourth time, I love it.)

There are lots of prepared playlists you can get - Classic FM do a good one. Good luck!

Stripey Man might feel a bit better with quiet music - it really does seem to help with fireworks.

(and are Halloween fireworks a thing now? I was driving home from work last night and thought the Triffids were coming...)

Don't threaten me with a good time.

(Actually, I hope the people who think that's an insult have *some* joy in their lives, because they're obviously missing out on a lot...)

The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin. I've only just started it but I already know it's going to be a favourite.

Have you tried The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter? Highly recommended (and it's a series!)

One minute, cutting-edge electro-futurism....

I've got that edition in paperback (the background is dark blue instead of black), and it's an amazing book. The description of the discord entering the music of the Ainur, I could almost hear it. I was reading it at a station and almost missed the train.

(reposted for a typo, sorry)

Brit here. New York &/or San Diego used to be on my bucket list, for Comic Con. Not any more. Not until that vulgar little stage-hog and his enablers are gone.

(And it's widespread here - overheard in a queue recently 'yeah, but who wants to go to America *now*?')

Good luck...

Sounds like I need to have a word with my local comic shop.......

Weirdly enough, creosote. It reminds me of school summer holidays, walking down to the corner shop with my best friend.

It depends how I'm feeling. I started The Man In The High Castle and couldn't get into it at all (and I love PKD's work) so I put it to one side, picked it up later on when I wasn't so stressed, and I loved it. So now if I'm not getting the vibe, I read something else and come back to it later.

Is the photo on the right from Countdown? (I need to watch that show.) Those expressions are wonderful...
July 19, 2025 at 11:13 AM
I cannot begin to imagine how frustrating that is...
I wish you good luck.
a black and white photo of a man in a black shirt making a funny face .
Alt: a black and white photo of Dean Winchester and an exasperated facepalm. He's had enough.
