TBH I’m hit and miss with Emerson. But this is a terrific cycle. I just wish their Shostakovich was as good as this!

In so many cases, the last mvmts play off of the intensity of the first mvmts. This first mvmt is SO incredible. But the last mvmt? I find bland and banal.

I used to feel the same way. The last movement felt a little inauthentic to me, like a big payoff we hadn't yet earned through the other bizarre movements. I love the piece now, but I get it.

TBH My least favourite. I’ve listened to dozens of recordings trying to like it more. The problem? The last mvmt. It just doesn’t work. It’s such a letdown from what builds through the other 4 mvmts. IMO

Wonderful operas. I love his Turandot!
