I think it’s kind of psychologically devastating when you “win” the game and no-one cares except goober dipshits. You’re feted only by the worst people alive. It’s gotta be corrosive, eating away at you. You make excuses as to why you don’t do more good with your wealth but it’s gotta ring hollow

Yeah I absolutely do, of course I am. If the First Nations people here had gone the IRA route they’d have a treaty and decent native title laws like we have in NZ. And yeah I’m pretty sure this counts as abuse yeah? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_...

That’s the point OP is making. More opprobrium is being shown for hunger strikers and uni students than was shown for actual terrorism. And fwiw as a kiwi/aussie I absolutely think the IRA was in the right. If you don’t want terrorism, don’t occupy and abuse people

Yep so centrist liberalism has collapsed in the US, UK, & Europe. It’s puffing along somewhat there & elsewhere via coalitions and ever-rightward accomodation. Democracy is backsliding pretty much everywhere. The refusal to harness bottom-up populism on the left has resulted in this outcome

I think humans have this weird quirk/bias where all the slurs/smears we see/hear, even if not directed at us, are stored in quick-retrieval storage in our brains. And then these epithets are dialled into our minds whenever we consider related thoughts. SM has exposed us to many more of these
