People say it isn't polite to discuss religion or politics. I have a Ph.D. in not being polite.
And while I know Sawyer would much better if we had a better team, maybe it’s best he’s moving on.

I wonder if this comes down to logistics and timing, like they don’t think they will be able to hire an AD and coach back to back.

I have a hard time they believe things will get better next year.

Also the survivor’s lawyers (I believe) have seen the files, so they can verify if something is missing.

OfC Washington’s status as an enslaver must be acknowledged as a stain on his character, something that didnt have to be & makes him a flawed hero in our founding. Both he & the US owe much to the support they received from enslaved people—this must always be acknowledged.

Washington’s mythic status was so useful to his contemporaries and the place and time he lived that we will almost certainly never know what he was actually like. He is talked about as if he were a superhero—Superman, Captain America, and Dr. Manhattan all rolled together.

Breed’s Hill was the highest casualty rate in war for the British until the f-ing Somme?!

I wonder how different the Revolution would have turned out if the British hadn’t underestimated and absolutely disregarded the colonist on almost every front. The British arrogance is bordering on Dunning-Kruger.

I guess I never realized how often people’s head got taken off by cannon balls. Either that or Burns is using every instance mentioned to really hit home how horrifying this war was.

This quote from Adams about clocks not striking at the same second as a metaphor for each colony realizing they must declare independence is just so brilliant.

It seems so quaint now to think that the colonists believed they could kill redcoats, capture British forts, and for all intents and purposes make war on the king and parliament and then expect things to go back to the way they were before and still be under the crown.

The fact that Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys had to fight New Yorkers to protect their land 😳 sound like prime candidates to join the British.

“Our only comfort lies in the justice of our cause. All our worldly comforts are now at stake—our nearest & dearest connections are hazarding their lives and properties. God give them wisdom and integrity sufficient to the great cause which they are now engaged.

Strange that soldiers on both sides just assumed that they would be able to drive the other to capitulation in short order. Perhaps they must tell themselves such things in order to stare death and ruin in the face as willingly and for as long as they can.

I have only ever heard the “shot heard ‘round the world” described as the fault of the British. I wonder if the British have only ever heard the opposite opinion.

The loyalists being conservative should tell you something about the nature of conservatism. As long as they stayed in and kept their power & privilege, it did not matter to them who was in power or what those they saw beneath them had to deal with.

Money—its creation, acquisition, its holding and withholding—is both the great weakness and great strength of America.
