I’ve been stuck indoors a lot lately, but I am fortunate enough to have a ton of great memories. This one is from a few years back when I went backpacking with a friend in the local mountains.

This is our dog. After removing a grapefruit-sized growth in his gut in August, he’s thriving now. His name is Isaac. He’s acting like a puppy again and we rescued him from a shelter in 2014.

It was another great day in the desert. I attempted to get to Jacumba Mountain, the LONG way, but I ran out of daylight. It was still a fantastic day of off-trail ridgeline hiking.

Yes, that was from Katiffik to the Canoe Center. We found them about 4 miles from Katiffik and paddled 5 miles until the wind picked up and the waves got big.
I’ve also scouted routes in Scandinavia, Newfoundland, and Baffin Island. Luckily, I get recs from a friend that’s been almost everywhere.

For real. I’ve been on many trips since, but this one has staying power. We’re hoping for an Alaska trip that might compete, but, I agree, there’s something magical about Greenland.

This is my friend Tip, having his morning coffee with a view. My daughter, Tip, and I had just woken up after a night on a remote desert mesa. The weather was perfect and the silence was golden.

We had just arrived in camp from the trailhead after climbing Piute Pass and were greeted by a wall of friends, old and new. We turned around and there was a sight to behold. Alpenglow on Mount Humphreys, Eastern Sierra, from early September, 2024.

Dawn in Dusy Basin. Slide film, 1983. Taken by my scoutmaster. This is a year before my first Sierra Trip. My dad and brother are down there. I have since visited the area several times. It never gets old.

I love going back to old photos and realizing I’ve taken pictures from nearly the same place several times. Pics are from 2010, 2021, and 2023, descending from New Army Pass down to Rock Creek. All three trips were wildly different.
