Soyinka will be fine. He'll find a home in a thoughtfully led country. We will continue to fall behind in scholarship, art, humanity.

[SPOILERS] I've been reading FoTR to my kids, and my seven year old said, "I think Gandalf's gonna die and come back." Turns out he read it in Soup of Doom. The books are aimed at readers too young to have read Tolkien!
