the big contradiction people here have is that they both are addicted to sweeping structural theories and also have comically harsh judgements about individual people's agency

In fact, they are delegating making AI useful to us. Upper management said “here’s some AI tools we spent millions on, figure out how to use them to save time” as we each do the job of three people

I’m no genius, but I’m pretty sure we could’ve spent that money on keeping our employees

The company I work for is trying their damn hardest to replace us with AI and has not yet found a way to do so

We are also hemorrhaging employees and not backfilling, but it’s not AI picking up the slack, it’s those of us who can’t afford to quit

The skillset that got him there (being a white dude with an ivy BA and a firm handshake) has aged poorly and he is deeply insecure about not understanding AI, and therefore we must buy in and not be left behind
