The low time preference ideal behind "HODL" doesn't equate to "never spend your bitcoin."
Delayed gratification should be balanced against the fact that you won't live forever. You absolutely should allow yourself some gratification at some point!

I've been to war.
Literally.
I graduated bootcamp two days before 9/11 (I'm old)
Went to Kuwait during the build up, then into Iraq and it fucking sucked.
Easy for those who never have to deal directly with the consequences to choose to go to war.
