Vim tips: Use splits for days as needed, adjust with mouse. "*y and "*p for copy and paste to/from terminal. The ":earlier 1f" command saves your butt if you have an open file and have made too many changes and got lost, or the cat jumped on your keyboard and hosed it all (previously-saved version).

Regarding the term setup, I use the OSX terminal dark palette from the solarized repo and 18pt Operator Mono Book Nerd Font complete (old eyes) and it shines when on my vertical external display for code.

I have a custom cursor definition in my vimrc for color (solarized bright magenta, so visual selections stand out) and shape — vertical bar for insert mode and block for normal mode.

Things that aren't apparent: I set my shiftwidth to 2 for html usually for ease of reading. I turn off matchparen because it's annoying. I make the comments italicized: highlight Comment cterm=italic gui=italic
