I saw this gif on Reddit showing how much plug-in balcony solar has been growing in Germany. So cool! Gives me some optimism about clean energy!

Perfectly timed comment while I was admiring the new north-south protected bike lanes that just opened in downtown Victoria 😻

Or, if you want a more local example - Esquimalt saw no traffic to their recent transportation improvements survey from X 😂💀

Do I understand why they used pasta for Astrophysics symbols? No

Do their markers slap? Yes

There are some really haunting and beautiful images from Vancouver Island from a series they did called "In Praise of Forests".
It's a contrast of clearcutting and replanting, with huge old-growth trees and closeups on the plant and animal life.

I got lost puttering in the US EPA photo archives. There's a series called DOCUMERICA from the 1970's, with a number of images from Canada as well.

The series was recording "subjects of environmental concern". Some scenes are sad, but there are plenty of candid and beautiful images.

Here's the breakdown of bike style for the same cities as above, sorted by cities with the most casual/city-style bikes. (Like discussed in the video, you can see the regional differences pretty well with this category)

Here's the age breakdown sorted by youngest riders, tho ignoring cities where < 30 cyclists were seen (not that the data collectors put in any less effort!)
I'm curious about the cities with more people 10 and under. Maybe it was the right time for some school/back home trips

Also, I could not resist nerding out a bit on this data since it's up for anybody to grab.
Here are the "top 10" cities by how many cyclists people observed, and by share of bikeshare bikes, ebikes and folding bikes

I saw that Oak Bay is doing a sidewalk inventory and can't resist upping the #yyjsidewalkproject from a while ago. Almost all sidewalk presence/absence is in OpenStreetMap for anyone to grab 😇

Victoria does a lot of cycling! And, it's been that way for a long time!
Personally I don't think we get enough recognition for this 😇😇

The Can-BICS website features this map of cycling growth in Canada, but it's kind of missing something...
