Hated combat in a game 90% based around combat is a huge problem. I felt like the game didn’t respect my time and that the “story” was such a mishmash of cliche and bad voice acting that I ended up completely detached.
I’m glad you liked it, it’s awesome when someone can see the beauty in flaws

That’s true, but if someone asked what game they should play with their limited time on earth, I can’t conceive of a scenario where ELEX is the best choice

Things being “bad” isn’t a huge problem..I like quest 64. I can objectively admit the game sucks the big one, however. What about ELEX spoke to you?

I’m not sure that’s a testament to it’s quality. ELEX is a weird example. It was hyped up to me as a “hidden gem” but I would give it a 3/10.
I’m not saying you are wrong but in a world where BG3 exists I can’t get why someone would spend their time on such a mess of a game

No one is holding up Demikids on Gameboy as “art” because it fails at making its gameplay engaging.
Pathologic is about as close to “we made this bad on purpose” you can get in games and it still mostly pushes the player away. It’s definitely art, but ive always felt like it fails as a game

The thing about games is that they have to succeed mechanically as well. Not saying every game has to be “fun” (stress or discomfort are valid mechanical aims) but that the design of the gameplay loop must be successful
