TIME Person of the Year (2006)
Reposted by Zsolt Lajtos
30 years in the making… my new album, Time Machine, is out now! All 11 songs were written in my 20s, now reimagined and finally properly studio-recorded for the first time.
I hope you get a kick out of it.

My cats are so ungrateful. I always try to spoil them and give them canned tuna, but they never eat it.
They never even open the can

Took a personality test.
It came back negative.

This concrete example is unprecedented as of now, but yes, it probably could happen, and yes, manufacturers do abuse their power like that.
Every device that needs an app on its own/from its manufacturer to fully function will do so only until that app and the servers behind it are up & running

You won't be when it gets remotely disabled by the manufacturer at the end of its "official support period" in like 2 years

It is so strange that the year 100000000000 is only 23 years away

Gemini is a curious choice for naming an AI.
"superficial", "ruthless", "erratic" (from cosmopolitan.com)
"it had to double itself" (from allure.com)
Talk about foreshadowing...

And I don't like the 12-hour clock. Who thinks starting with 12 when counting to 12 is normal?

Earth, Wind & Fire performing at the FireAid LA Benefit Concert is in a bit of a bad taste IMO

They need to make an AI for 3D models.
I have quite a few ideas for 3D printed stuff but a serious lack of skill to actually be able to create the models

I don't have a messed up sleep schedule.
I just live in the wrong time zone.

Can't say for sure, but in my theory, those might've played a part.
But people have always been curious and have always been looking for answers. It's not their fault they found the wrong ones.
However, insisting on keeping those beliefs and rejecting progress is a whole another story IMO

I also find it interesting how most well-known religions originate from areas with mind-altering drugs available (like Southwest Asia - the Middle East with poppy plants - opiates, South America with hallucinogenic mushrooms and coca plants)
Must be a coincidence...

Bluesky in 3 easy steps:
1) See overly optimistic post about some new tech
2) Provide some insightful opinion on its potential long-term negative effects in a reply
3) Get blocked

However noble these intentions and your suggestions are, they may backfire. You know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions [4/4]
January 24, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Then we can come up with "better" and "better" solutions, as you've suggested above, which will result in even more complex crawlers that are even harder to obstruct.
With all the support behind it, crawlers will always win, and we'll end up with crawlers that are nearly impossible to stop [3/4]
January 24, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Also, define "better". Better for whom? Better for what purpose? Better on what timeline?
Yes, currently it's possible to create such temporary obstacles. Then the devs of these crawlers will bypass them, making them more complex. [2/4]
January 24, 2025 at 3:40 PM
It's not about solutions. It's about whether it's worth starting a war against something that has unlimited money and support behind it, even from some pretty powerful governments. Something that, in the long run, we'll end up not being able to even slow down, thanks to these attempts [1/4]
January 24, 2025 at 3:40 PM
This sounds way too easy to detect and bypass. The only thing this will achieve is put an unnoticably small dent into these crawlers' process until they become more complex and harder to stop

@bsky.app Why doesn't my follower count get updated when bot/scammer profiles that followed me get deleted or when I block a follower? Now it shows the number of followers I've had altogether, not the number I currently have
