Standard has variety again! While I miss my dear Heartfire Hero and Monstrous Rage for Boros Auras, this change was absolutely necessary.

This deck has a lot of fun lines, but are they strong enough? Bladehold + Astor = all equips are free. Freya + Buster Sword = draw and cast 4 mana spell turn 3. Axe + Kemba = turn 2 4/4 trample doublestrike. And Lavaspur boots is a must include with Raubahn.

I always believed Urza's Saga should survive a blood moon or harbinger of the seas. In my mind, there's no reason the lore counters change or remove. It should just become a mountain or island, that happens to have lore counters on it. And now it does!

Final Fantasy brings a lot of support for Equipment, but does it stand a chance in standard? With the power of aggro and combo, I don't think equipment has what it takes. The best equipment deck will still be Izzet Cori-Steel Cutter.

Congrats to Percy Fang for taking down the Standard Regional Championship in Hartford. He outsmarted the field by simplifying the deck. While everyone was trying maximize Cori-Steel Cutter, Percy brought mono-red aggro and piloted it perfectly to the finish.

I make it part of my formula to run one planeswalker in every commander deck I play and they made the perfect one for my Mondrak deck! Elspeth, Storm Slayer may even have a place in Standard with boros control.
