Christmas trees are up in Moscow
It seems since 2022 they are put up earlier and earlier

The aesthetic shiny-shiny stultifies the masses

Stuck in a broken lift in central Moscow.

A daily occurrence now, as country’s infrastructure disintegrates

The local engineer takes two hours to come and fix it.

On plus side, I get to check all the pro and anti war graffiti scribbled on the walls

Moscow 2025: Things Have Changed
I'm back in Moscow in 2025. I look at how reaching the capital has changed and what my first impressions are upon arrival

“Moscow is the safest city on earth”

But every ground floor apartment has iron bars on the windows. And every apartment has a steel door.

I understand “the 90s” argument. But is Moscow still that unsafe? That without iron bars the city would be mayhem with mass crime?

Went to a mall in Moscow today

MAAG is the Russian replacement for ZARA

In 2022 nobody knew why they chose that name.

But in 2025 it’s a little clearer. It seems like a mockery of MAGA

MAAG — make America a ghetto?

Interesting that Russian media today has completely ignored the anti-Trump protests

Russian media usually hyper-focuses on western protests - even if there is a couple of people on a march - they will find out about it (protest = unstable society)

Meanwhile, Trump merch floods Moscow

I see more and more military enlistment stalls in Moscow metro
Today I tried to take a photo discretely, but turns out the officer saw me, started chasing me through the metro

He thought I wanted to sign up for the military but was too shy to approach him
Imagine his surprise to learn I’m British

Trump souvenirs, cups, Russian dolls now on sale in Moscow.

Only the best and brightest of humanity get their face on a Russian doll.

New billboard up in Moscow.

“2025 - The year of the defender of the fatherland”

Strange that they waited until mid October to put it up?

Arbat street, Moscow. Posters are now up showing European capitals celebrating the arrival of Soviet troops, from Prague, to Krakow and all across the Baltics.

There is a sense that today’s Russia is contemplating a new “liberation”

So today is Moscow’s “birthday”.
City littered with posters.

First time I’ve seen it as Russia tries to give appearance of Moscow as ancient world with long history

Moscow’s “greatness” is its supposed age.

Still, remains a monocultural, boring mundane city of repression

Hm, is God protesting against “traditional values”

Victory Day Moscow. Every street, every shop window, every billboard, every song on radio, every film on tv and every worker, is now draped in Soviet Red Army colours.

The most interesting is when you see the dates 1941-2025. The years 2025 and 1941 have become one and the same thing

Reading this Tolstoy classic today in the perfect location. It seems today’s “leaders” may have skipped Tolstoy in school.
