all archbishops/monkeys/apes are primates, not all primates/apes are archbishops. all monkeys are not archbishops, afaik, but who knows what the future holds.

The social excursions for @hbes2026.bsky.social will be held on the 17th of May, after the conference. (There was a mistake in the date in the email sent out to HBES members.)

Talk to your friends to coordinate on which one you may want to join.

True. But also it’s a smaller network. And my follows/followers here are probably majority all from this crew. Yours must be/evidently are more diverse. Which is cool!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

A very important study. Many figured that chimp warfare was adaptive. Now we have proof. Lethal displacement of a neighbor doubled fertility and even had a greater impact on survivorship. However, as usual we need more details as other questions emerge.

Interesting ideas & industry needs new directions. A comment on analogy: most artistically-minded musicians & most serious fans still see the album as the primary mode. Those listeners are rare now. But it doesn’t mean the quality or experience is improved. The unbundling isn’t necessarily good.

Due to the the high volume of submissions received, abstract decision notifications for the upcoming Cultural Evolution Society 2026 Conference in Rabat are slightly delayed.

Expect to see it in your inbox in ~ 1 week, and fingers crossed you got your presentation of choice!

A raw portrait of rural poverty and inequality in late French-colonial Vietnam during World War II, when food was scarce and family support often wasn’t enough. Worth reading if you like short stories.

Most preprint servers post views and DLs, and OSF used to have an 'endorse this work' feature(?) I like the concept. But why not incorporate these 'vanity metrics' into the preprint server (the source), rather than a 3rdparty? I guess you get the sharing feature and more "social" behavior.
