USA is about the only advanced economy on earth that treats pregnancy as an annoyance and refuses to fund continuity of care, along with properly-resourced maternal leave. Hence, maternal mortality rates are 2-3x higher than in EU. Romania (with 1/2 of USA’s GDP/capita) performs 2x as well on this.
