Hello, I'm Megan. I have a team of working Siberian Huskies known as Yukikaze Siberians. My main focus is mushing and sometimes we dabble in dog sports.
Nice 32 miler today as we prepare for Wolftrack! Currently the pool is down to Comet, Shirou, Deku, Chise, Saphira, Umaroth, Crowley, Butcher and Starlight. Astral, Firnen, and Tira are off for injury. We'll see how the runs go this week and pending anymore injuries for the final 8 who get to race.

I wanted to thank Leif Herleiksplass for sponsoring Deku! Deku was already sponsored and Leif is also a kennel sponsor, but all the same I want to give the shout out!

Leif happens to own Deku's grandmother Lulu and many of his uncles/aunts/cousins through her.

A big thank you to Sue and Bob Bain for sponsoring Firnen and Umaroth! This is their second sponsor, but they were sponsored in memory of their uncle Healy. ♥️

Firnen and Umaroth are wonderful in harness! Focused and serious on the line, they are everything I could've hoped for.

Next I wanted to say thank you to Laura Rushfeldt for sponsoring Rumple!!

Rumple is a semi retiree now but he was still competing with me last season at 10 years old, competing in Wilderness 60 and Can Am 100 and logging 1337 miles.

Next I want to say thank you Cathy Paddock for sponsoring Saphira!!

Saphira is a wonderful leggy girl. She easily made my race team for Northern Pines this past weekend, and I see her the same as a boy when I choose my race team in terms of the power and drive she brings to my team.

I wanted to finish my sponsor shout outs before the first race, but sadly fell a little short. I set aside some time tonight so I could do so, because I really am so appreciative of all the doggy sponsors!

First we have Astral! Thank you to Karendipitee for sponsoring her!

Northern Pines is worth going to if only to get some AMAZING glamour shots of your team 🤣 📷 photo credit Rich Besler!

Northern Pines recap!

I went into this race expecting last place, and that is what we got with the red lantern award, so the results don't surprise me.

However I am absolutely blown away with how my team performed on a personal level for us!!

Did someone say snacks?

A lovely 26 mile run today. This is the race team for Northern Pines :) Comet and Shirou in lead, Deku and Saphira in swing, Crowley in team, and Firnen and Umaroth in wheel. The only 7 uninjured right now 🙈 We'll be slow due to lack of training, with the goal being to have fun for the yearlings!

As we head into our first race of the season, I want to take a moment to thank our three kennel sponsors of the season! Along with every dog sponsor it is the only reason I was able to make it to any races this season after moving cross country in January. I am eternally grateful! 🫶

For those not on Facebook, Mousse had an adventure yesterday! While doing a series run, Mousse was in lead and his snap unclipped when Jaye and Joe were almost back to the house. He took off down the trail, assumedly back home. Unfortunately when they got home however he was nowhere to be seen.

Sharing this here for my fellow Siberian Husky peeps! Rukia and all my 8+ year old Sibes are already submitted.

"Promising new findings are emerging from the DOGs Lab at UMBC. Dr. Smith’s team has identified a major risk haplotype associated with increased risk of epilepsy in Siberian Huskies. "

I give huge credit to @zulayawolf.bsky.social . In the northeast, I got a fair amount of sled driving in. Ask anyone about the Wilderness race, with downhills with turns at the bottom and hairpin turns you have to drift around, surviving that course on low snow years is a feat in itself.

I truly cannot express how grateful and appreciative I am to this community, considering everything these past few weeks. Had I stayed in the northeast, I have no doubt I would've stayed burned out and in my head, and we wouldn't have been able to enjoy the season.

The current race team ♥️

Last night was a cold one! We put my outdoor dogs in my trailer (big shout out to Melissa for helping me load them!) and the trailer stayed at -16. Karyu came inside with Cheesecake, and even the house dogs snuggled up tight. It was -28 when we were done loading dogs and got to -33 by this morning.

It's finally time I try to find an active pet home for Trooper. I took him in to give him a good home so he wouldn't bounce around kennels, and for the intent to join my race team if he could, but sadly Trooper tops out around 5-6 miles. He is 2 years old and neutered.

Sad to report my sweet Rukia is getting bumped off the race team. She had a second seizure right after our run, with the first being just six weeks ago, and both being on some harder mile bump type runs. She's getting some much love in the house and will just go on rec / puppy runs moving forward.

Happy pups enjoying the snow ♥️ Wisconsin looks good on them

Thank you to our next sponsor Gill, one of my closest coworkers, who sponsored my amazing Yona!

Yona is a semi retiree who doesn't make my race team anymore, but it is no stretch to say she is the most influential dog of my kennel. I have 7 of her kids on my race team this season, and 1 grandkid.

Since we had a bit of a hiatus, I opted to bring Kaisel in a crate and swap him and Trooper mid run. Trooper and Kaisel are "rec team" dogs so they don't do the full mileage the race team does, but with swapping them midway they were both able to enjoy getting out today. :) Kaisel was very excited!

Thank you to our next sponsor who sponsored my sweet girls Chise and Rukia!!! Brittany has been a good friend of mine for many years now, and she chose these two as they smothered her in affection when she visited my kennel a few years back.
January 14, 2026 at 2:27 AM
It felt SO good to finally get the team out today! I have to truly thank everyone again, it's been a huge relief to be able to refocus back on my own kennel again. I'll be posting sponsor shoutouts over the next week or so now that I'm close to being done unpacking, I can't thank everyone enough.

Jaye and the team came flying into the Sourdough checkpoint for CB300 with all 11 dogs happy and healthy - and she has chosen to scratch here. She had a couple minor injuries that would've only gotten worse through the race and did not want to cause any long term issues that may impact her Iditarod.
