Granny Ping and her siblings are settling in for what promises to be at least another hour of conversation, and Yaoyao, like the rest of her cousins, has learned to come prepared for these sorts of situations.

AN ACT Relating to prohibiting certain law enforcement agencies 2 from hiring certain federal employees; adding a new section to 3 chapter 10.93 RCW; creating a new section; and providing an effective date.4 5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON: 6 NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 10.93 RCW to read as follows:7 8 (1) A general authority Washington law enforcement agency or a 9 limited authority Washington law enforcement agency may not employ 10 any individual who was hired as a sworn officer of the United States 11 immigration and customs enforcement on or after January 20, 2025. 12 (2) This section applies prospectively only and does not apply to 13 any individual hired by the agency prior to the effective date of this section.14 15 NEW SECTION. need to report that since i published this particular passage in october /i/ have been promoted from unimportant associate to manager. i fear apollo might have hit me with the dodgeball of prophecy on this one.
Snippet of chapter 2 of opening up: It takes a couple of weeks for Chongyun and Xingqiu to make good on their promise; Xingqiu’s department at Feiyun Corp is in the throes of their end-of-quarter crunch, which in practice means a lot more late nights at the office than either he or Chongyun would like. (I miss being an unimportant associate, Xingqiu mourns in their group chat. Why did I take this promotion to manager? Why did I have to be competent at my job?) Chongyun appears by himself periodically throughout those weeks, picking up takeout to drop off at Xingqiu’s office.
