A lot of people are loving the John Blanche Masterclass paints for painting Warhammer grimdark, but looking at the colors it's very suitable for painting minis in the style of a different artist

Two reaper miniatures, Gladiator with Trident and Beggar, I guess. I made a big mistake with these - unhappy with Nuln Oil, I made my own black wash with carbon ink and while it looked great in the beginning, it leached into the varnish and made them look dull. Oooops! #miniatures #reaper

And that's it! I had a blast painting them and it's rekindled my interest in mini painting. I have a few old minis that have had lying around for decades that I'm going to paint, and then it's on to my next project: Zombicide, specifically Black Death. Excited! #talisman #miniatures

Last but not least, the Sorceress! I'm really happy with the way her dress came out. I'm less happy with her right eye, which I repainted 5 times before realizing the eye was bulging on the sculpt. Sadly I lack the skill to perform eye surgery at this scale. #talisman #miniatures

The Prophetess! I've been dreading painting the women of the set, as 'craggy' and 'he has eczema' doesn't really fly with them. I did my best but her flesh still seems splotchy to me and the yellow piping is way too bright. #talisman #miniatures

The Wizard! I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It was difficult to start but I love the way his robe and cloak look now. Looking back at the earlier figures, I've definitely improved. #talisman #miniatures

I loved the Princess Bride as a kid. This is so awful. 😢 I feel sick, and I have a terrible feeling the last project he was working on was the reason he was murdered. Godspeed to you and your wife, Rob. Your legacy will endure for a long time to come.

The warrior! I feel a lot of things came together for this, and I feel a surge of encouragement! I learned about black lining from Anne Foerster, who I remember learning from when we were both a lot younger. It adds definition that was missing from the earlier pieces. #talisman #miniatures

Bouncing back from the elf, we have the Minstrel! I'm pleased with how it turned out. This mini taught me how to thin paints with flow improver, which really helped with the white stripes. The serial killer smile creeps me out though. #talisman #miniatures

The thief! There's not much to say here. He's pretty small, either a tiny man or a halfling (does Warhammer have those?). With such limited real estate I focused on getting the basics right, and I think I succeeded.

The ghoul! For some reason he's the only mini from the set with an actual base. Maybe he hocked his clothes to buy it. I'm getting more comfortable with layering and shading, but need a lot more practice. The shading on the back of his head is the wrong hue and too strong. #talisman #miniatures

The Troll. Hooo boy, do not look directly at it. He looks like he's about to sew his own costume and yell WHERE'S FRANCIS at the other minis. Layering is turning out to be a challenge. At least trolls can get away with looking like they have a terminal skin disease. #talisman #miniatures
