jikook are meeting for the first time… and it’s not quite what jimin had been expecting 🫣
"Nuh-uh, I don't want 'em," she said, waving her hands and backing away. "There ain't no way I'm going back in there with him." She took another drag and blew the smoke out her nose. "Back in where? And with whom?" Jimin asked, even though he knew. Oh, he knew alright. "Him," Madge said with a shudder, waving her cigarette towards the trailer. "Jungkook." She said his name with venom. "He's— he's an awful man." A wave of concern passed through Jimin at her visceral reaction to the mere mention of his name. "Did he— are you hurt?" he asked, looking her up and down. Aside from how stressed out she was, there didn't seem to be anything else wrong with her. No bruises or cuts, and her outfit was still neatly pressed. "No," Madge muttered, crushing her butt under her heel. "I just can't deal with him for one more minute. He's drunk again, and he gets so demanding and patronizing and plain ol' rude when he's on the bottle." "Oh." "And I know I should be grateful for the job," she continued. "I mean, I was so excited when I landed it, you wouldn't believe— but he's an ogre and I just hate him and I'm one second away from quitting." Rant over, she resumed her pacing, glancing nervously towards the trailer every now and then as if a roaring tiger might burst through the door and attack them both. "But I— I'm supposed to give these to you," Jimin said, biting the inside of his cheek in annoyance. "I'm not supposed to talk to, um, Mr. Jeon." "Oh, you're a obedient one, aren't ya? I can see why they stuck you in that cave of a mail room." "I'm not that obedient," Jimin said, bristling. "I have a mind of my own." "Oh yeah? Well why don't ya go in there and give 'em to him yourself then? Since you're so insistent you're not Edna Mackey's lackey." Madge grinned evilly at him. "Hey, got a smoke? I could really use one and I'm out," she said, crushing the empty box in her hand. "I don't smoke." She laughed. "Then you're the only one in this godforsaken town who doesn't." "I noticed." "Well don't just stand there, go ahead and knock. I dare ya. I'm just-" She pointed toward a nearby trailer, "I'm gonna hide over there, so he won't see me." Jimin had been warned, but he wasn't afraid to face Jeon Jungkook, no matter how shitty his behavior might be. Setting the boxes down at his feet, he rapped at the trailer door. From inside there was a frustrated growl, and as footsteps approached the door, someone muttered, "Madge, I told you to leave me-" Jungkook stopped short when he saw it was Jimin at the door. "Who are you?" he slurred, his dark hair disheveled and flopping in his eyes. Madge was right -Jungkook was clearly drunk, his eyes glassy and unfocused. His pants and shirt were rumpled, the collar unbuttoned and tie loosened. The carefully coiffed hair Jimin was used to seeing on him was hanging in his bloodshot eyes. Jungkook looked like he belonged on Skid Row - not in a luxurious trailer on the backlot of Monument Pictures — and he certainly didn't look like the hottest star in Hollywood. Jimin had thought he was prepared to face him - evidently not. He seemed to have lost his voice. When Jimin didn't answer immediately Jungkook snapped, "What the fuck do you want?" His aggressive tone awakened Jimin's indignation, and, finding his voice, Jimin struck back. "There's no need to be such a— such a jerk," Jimin said, wishing he could use a stronger word but well aware of the power imbalance between them. Jungkook could have Jimin fired on the spot. "I'm only here to deliver your fan mail." "Fan mail," Jungkook repeated, then broke into unnerving hysterical laughter. He spun away from Jimin and shakily poured himself another drink from a crystal decanter. "Fan fucking mail. Great." In addition to his confusion about Jungkook's reaction to the many letters of adoration, which Jimin had assumed he'd be pleased about, Jimin wasn t sure what he should do now. Should he leave the boxes where he'd put them down? Bring them inside? Take them back to the mail room? Jungkook drained half his glass and swayed on his feet. "Are ya gonna to bring those in here or keep standin' there like a dunce?" Jimin's mind was at war with itself — while he didn't like being spoken to like he was a piece of trash, he could handle it, let it slide off his back. He had enough confidence in himself not to take that kind of thing to heart. What he couldn't deal with was those words coming from the mouth of Jeon Jungkook, the same man Jimin had idolized ever since he had watched Jungkook's first film, Truth Only in Death, with his dad his sophomore year in high school. Jeon Jungkook, the person he'd always heard referred to as kind and polite and empathetic. Jeon Jungkook, the person Jimin had always envisioned as the protagonist in Jimin's own screenplay, even if he had been dead for eighty years back then. Or in the future. Or whatever. Nothing made sense anyway.
