I saw Clueless (1995) for the first time last night; what a great reminder that sometimes you can and should just not have an opinion on a cultural object. There's a temptation to call it 'good' or 'bad', but, like. I'm so far from being the audience for that movie; what do I care, really?

The 'Sigma Society' in this episode of Columbo having a logo that's just a big letter 'S' is so funny to me. I know it was 1976, but surely there's a letter more pertinent that we might have chosen in this case.

I can't believe the city's plan for an "Electronic Video Sign Zone". Imagine looking at Times Square and saying "I want that here, in my smaller city where it would be harder for people to escape it. I want to broadcast live events there, in my city famous for its big hockey riot."

Thinking about people branding their work/sexuality as 'sapphic': I've done so only once, for a book that channelled Bliss Carman's weird overwrought 'translations' of Sappho, with the idea it would give the potential reader an idea of the poetic tone I was going for
