Zahawi is out of touch. I walk the streets of Manchester and London and it is not immigrants who make women afraid. His claim is misleading and scaremongering. Violence against women and girls is committed by men of all races and nationalities.
Nadhim Zahawi thinks London is now unsafe, because the other day a tired-looking man walked past him during the morning rush hour.

I am delighted that the government has announced Cherry Tree Primary School as the next school in Bolton South and Walkden to introduce a free breakfast club, alongside Dukesgate Academy in Little Hulton, Kearsley West Primary School in Kearsley and Lever Edge Primary Academy in Great Lever.

For too long, cancer patients have waited too long for answers.

Under Labour’s National Cancer Plan, the NHS will meet cancer waiting time standards by 2029, with hundreds of thousands starting treatment within 62 days. £2.3bn for faster tests, saving lives.

This is real change

Really saddened to hear of the attack at a mosque in Islamabad.

My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those injured.

For over 30 years, Pakistan has faced the threat of terrorism and has endured some of the most devastating attacks on civilians and places of worship.

I was due to speak in Parliament during the road safety debate this afternoon.

Unfortunately, due to a serious family emergency that required my immediate attention, I had to leave Westminster at short notice and was unable to be present in the Chamber.

Below is the speech I was due to give in Parliament on Thursday 5th February 2026 in a debate on Road Safety, however, due to a serious family emergency that required my immediate attention, I had to…

I have joined MPs from across Parliament in calling for stronger AI regulation.
Recent cases show how AI can be misused to create sexualised imagery at scale. AI must be safe by design and comply with the law from day one.

A vital meeting of the APPG on Dentistry and Oral Health.
Alongside Mary Foy MP, I chaired a discussion with Stephen Kinnock MP and Chief Dental Officer Jason Wong on the crisis in NHS dentistry, from access to workforce pressures.
Patients cannot afford further delay.

I will be speaking in Parliament this Thursday in a debate on road safety.
Before then, I want to hear from residents:
- What changes would make our roads safer?

Specific hotspots or general ideas are welcome.

Your views will help shape the case I make on Thursday.

Pubs are at the heart of our communities, but landlords have faced years of rising costs and unfair rates.
The new support package is welcome: a 15% rates cut from 2026, a two‑year freeze, and wider reforms to help pubs
I’ll keep championing pubs across Bolton South and Walkden every step of the way

Great to see so many children who care about their local community at St Peter & Paul's Primary School this morning. Some brilliant questions about what my job entails, and what we are doing to make Bolton South and Walkden better for everyone who lives here.

Women in Bolton & Salford deserve better. Every £1 invested in Women's Health Hubs delivers £5 of benefits, yet we don't have one. With our hospitals under real strain, I have written to the Women and Equalities Minister demanding urgent action so women in Bolton South and Walkden aren't left behind

It was great to speak with the Housing Secretary, Steve Reed, about the work this government is doing to end exploitative leasehold charges. We are capping ground rents so that after forty years they fall to a peppercorn & ensuring no new homes are sold as leasehold. This is real change in action.

Recently, I met with Andy Burnham, Georgia Gould MP and cross party Greater Manchester MPs to push for urgent SEND reform. Every child deserves support that meets their needs and every family deserves to be heard. I will keep fighting for them.
January 29, 2026 at 5:05 PM
I’ve heard time and again from residents across Bolton, Walkden and Little Hulton about how unfair & outdated the leasehold system is. We have one of the highest proportions of leasehold homes in the country. I’m glad the Government is now acting to reform leasehold and cap ground rents, as promised

The crash on Wigan Road has caused a devastating loss for several families.

I’ve written to the Transport Secretary because young drivers are over‑represented in serious collisions, and international evidence shows graduated driving licences can reduce harm.

On Holocaust Memorial Day, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and all victims of genocide.

We must continue to stand against all forms of hatred. We must ensure that we never forget and never allow history to repeat itself.

Trusting our members and upholding open, democratic selections matters. That’s how Labour stays strong, united and focused on winning.

Andy Burnham is a respected public servant with a strong record. Labour members should decide their candidate through a fair and open selection process.
BREAKING: Andy Burnham confirms he's running for selection for the Gorton and Denton by-election

I welcomed the launch of a Government consultation on children’s use of mobile phones and social media.

This is a chance for parents and young people to have their say. I will be engaging locally in Bolton South and Walkden to make sure those voices are heard.

Just catching up on Mark Carney’s remarkable speech at Davos yesterday

A rare moment of honesty about the limits & double standards of the rules-based international order & why pretending otherwise no longer works.

Double standards have weakened international law.

Properly funded councils deliver for communities.
Bolton and Salford show the difference.

Even with a supposed ceasefire, humanitarian aid is blocked from #Gaza, and illegal settlements continue to move forward in the West Bank.

On Tuesday I led a debate on airport drop off charges, after constituents got in touch with me about issues they have had at Manchester Airport.

I was happy to hear the Minister's assurance that the government will be looking to work with airports to address the challenges I and other MPs raised

At PMQs I raised what many constituents tell me: we are building homes, but not enough social or affordable housing. Providers say they lack the resources to build more. I welcome the Prime Minister’s ambition, but I’ll keep pressing for action for those still waiting in Bolton South and Walkden.
