Las galaxias enanas NGC 147 (izquierda) y NGC 185 se muestran juntas en este profundo retrato telescópico. Estas dos son galaxias satélite poco fotografiadas de M31, la gran galaxia espiral Andrómeda, que se encuentra a unos 2.5 millones de años luz. Su separación en el cielo, menor de un grado en la constelación de Casiopea, equivale a aproximadamente 35 mil años luz en la distancia de Andrómeda, aunque la propia Andrómeda está fuera de este encuadre. Las más brillantes y conocidas galaxias satélite de Andrómeda, M32 y M110, se ven mucho más cerca de la gran espiral. NGC 147 y NGC 185 han sido identificadas como un sistema binario de galaxias con estabilidad gravitacional. Además, la galaxia enana tenue descubierta recientemente Cassiopeia II parece formar parte de este sistema, creando un grupo ligado gravitacionalmente dentro de la población de pequeñas galaxias satélite de Andrómeda.
