29 years ago today, Homer Simpson had an epic chili pepper-induced hallucination. “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer” first aired January 5, 1997.

Most of the sequence was animated completely by David Silverman as he wanted it to look exactly as he had imagined it.

Comedy can come from the simplest of gags, if there’s confidence to commit. It doesn’t have to be bombast, or a major production number. THE MUPPET SHOW could do big comedy and small comedy, but, importantly, allowed itself room to breathe in service of the comedy, even with a slow-burn gag...

I’ve mentioned it before, but one of the things THE MUPPET SHOW did often was pull in a generation of performers that had inspired Jim Henson & the team, & afford them a respect & spotlight that most of the industry at the time no longer did. Edgar Bergen’s appearance is a perfect example.

Here are some more totally real and recovered VHS screenshots from the lost Animaniacs/Simpsons crossover special "Wakko's Springfield Score" that was slated to come out on April 1, 1996. But unfortunately, it got canned after it was 80 percent completed.

Wiggum tries to calm down a rowdy crowd of goons surrounding him and rest of the group with him. Skinner puts up his fists, Wakko wields a mallet, and Yakko whips out his paddleball. Wiggum PI: "Alright, Let's just let's settle this nice and easy..." Yakko: "Ten against four huh? I like those odds!" Dot angrily scolding Fat Tony when she sees Ralph the Guard has been caught and beat up by the other two mobsters, Legs and Louie. Dot: "Whats he doing here? What did you do to him?! Tony, you promised!" Fat Tony: "You lied to us, Dot. I believe that nullifies any agreements we had. Krusty, who has been framed for a serious crime, hides in a bathtub during an intense shootout. He looks up to see both Hello Nurse, and Wiggum PI with smoking guns. Krusty: "Does this mean I'm finally not a suspect anymore?" Wiggum PI: (shakes head)"Uh uh" Krusty: (groans ) "So Nurse, This means you and I are back to tog-" Nurse: "Nope" Krusty: (groans louder) Wakko introducing his new friend, Sideshow Bob to the others inside a diner. Yakko and Krusty look shocked while Bart buries his head in despair. Wakko: "... hes smart, talks funny and even better, he hates clowns! But mostly of all, hes gonna help us! Meet my new special freind!" Wakkos Special Freind : "Hello gentlemen" Krusty: "Oh crap..." Bart: "Why do you hate me, God?"

VHS 'Screenshots' from Wakko's Springfield Score
These are recovered, totally not fake, screenshots from a lost crossover special of Animaniacs and Simpsons made circa 1996 before it was canceled mid production due to unknown production issues, and not by a bored artist with too much free time. 🤥
Yakko and Wakko Warner as former street hustlers turned detectives who are looking for their sister, Dot Warner. They run into Clancy Wiggum, a private investigator and his partner "Skinny Boy Skinner" Wiggum PI: "Sorry Rover, I already got a partner, this city's too dangerous for a cat, dog...what are you two again?" Yakko Warner: "Look, PI we barely know on our own show, that's not changing here" Wakko proving his worth as a detective when he confronts; Krusty the comedian, who's being framed for a serious crime Krusty: "Hey, Why the hell should I trust you? You're the reason I'm this mess in the first place!" Wakko: "Cause I'm the only one who can clear your name!" Inspector Scratchsniff, a man who on a manhunt for the Warners along with Deputy Ralph and the Nurse.  Skinny Boy: "We got to find those three deformed children before Fat Tony and his goons do! There's no telling what will happen when he gets a hold of them!" Inspector Scratchensniff: "He's not the one we need to be worried about!" Warners after running into Fat Tony, one of their main adversaries in the special. Inspector Scratchensniff along with deputy Ralph, Nurse, and others in a harrowing race to catch the Warners. Yakko, Wakko, and Dot "Heeelllo Tony!" (group kiss) Fat Tony: "This meeting was a mistake..."
