CLASSIC Avengers Revisited: Marvel Triple Action Vol 1 #6 Deep Dive!
Step into a true Marvel time capsule! Today we’re diving into Marvel Triple Action Vol 1 #6 (July 1972), a reprint of the classic Avengers #12 from 1965. This isn’t just any comic — it’s a window into the Marvel Method era, where Stan Lee, Don Heck, Dick Ayers, and Stan Goldberg were shaping the Avengers, superhero storytelling, and what it meant to be a Marvel hero. From Giant-Man shrinking down to ant-size, to Thor wielding Mjolnir as a divining rod, to the Avengers facing the cunning Mole Man and Red Ghost, this issue is packed with classic Marvel action and storytelling quirks. We’ll break down why Marvel reprinted this story in 1972, the rise of Marvel’s newsstand strategy, the comic book market of the era, and even the hilarious and iconic ads that made ’70s comics so memorable. We’ll also explore the creative genius behind the issue — Don Heck’s pencils, Dick Ayers’ inks, Stan Goldberg’s colors, and Sam Rosen’s lettering — and show how the early Avengers were finding their identity in a world full of super-science and Cold War threats. If you’re a fan of vintage Avengers, Marvel history, or just love a deep dive into classic comics, this is one video you can’t miss. Watch as we uncover hidden details, historical context, and fascinating creator stories from one of the most iconic eras of Marvel history. 🎯 Don’t forget to hit Like, Subscribe, and tap the bell to never miss a new deep-dive comic video. Why was this classic issue from 1965 reprinted in 1972? Marvel aimed to introduce iconic Avengers and Fantastic Four stories to new readers when back issues were scarce. 🦸‍♂️📚 Check it out: #Marvel #Avengers #Comics #Nostalgia youtube.com/shorts/s7aDC...
Why Was #Marvel Reprinting #Avengers #Comics in the 70s? #marvel #marvelcomics #comichistory #comic
So, why was this issue from 1965 reprinted again in 1972? The basic premise of ‘Marvel Triple Action’ was to bring classic 1960s Avengers and Fantastic Four stories to a new generation of readers at a time when back issues were hard to find and Marvel was rapidly expanding its newsstand footprint. In the early 1970s, Marvel launched several “reprint books” like “Marvel’s Greatest Comics”, “Marvel Tales”, and “Marvel Super-Heroes” as they needed more titles on the newsstand. By 1972, Marvel was growing fast but was limited by distribution caps. Reprint titles were an easy way to increase the number of books they could publish each month without overburdening the creative staff. Additionally the original Avengers run from #1 to #40 were already considered a classic by the 70s, and they were becoming hard to find and expensive to purchase. ‘Marvel Triple Action’ was created to make those key early stories accessible again for younger or newer readers who were just discovering the Avengers. Additionally, The Avengers’ popularity spiked in the early ’70s, their lineup that included The Vision, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, and others was hugely popular, so Marvel capitalized by reprinting the early Stan Lee/Jack Kirby/Don Heck issues. This kept the characters in front of more readers and helped build continuity for fans who missed the early years.

This reprint of Avengers #12, from January 1965, showcases Stan Lee's unique ‘Marvel Method’—a collaborative approach with artists. Lee crafted synopses, while artists like Don Heck shaped the visuals. Check it out! #MarvelMethod #Avengers #StanLee 🦸‍♂️📚 youtube.com/shorts/YhuEG...
What is The #Marvel Method? #TheMarvelMethod #marvelcomics #comichistory #comic #comicbook #comics
Marvel Triple Action #6 is a reprint from Avengers #12 originally released in January 1965 and was written and edited by Stan Lee himself, or at least as far as ‘The Marvel Method’ was concerned. The method, which was not created at Marvel but used almost exclusively at this time worked like this; Lee would brainstorm a story with an artist and then prepare a brief synopsis rather than a full script. Based on the synopsis, the artist would fill the allotted number of pages by determining and drawing the panel-to-panel storytelling. After the artist turned in penciled pages, Lee would write the word balloons and captions, and then oversee the lettering and coloring. In effect, the artists were co-plotters, whose collaborative first drafts Lee built upon. This is how Lee and penciler Don Heck worked at that time.

Think you know Supergirl? 🌟 Meet Lesla‑Lar, a Kryptonian scientist from Kandor! She swapped places with Supergirl, sparking an early identity-swap arc. Curious? Check it out! 👉 #Supergirl #LeslaLar #ComicHistory #DCComics youtube.com/shorts/JAuV0...
Think We'll See This #SUPERGIRL Villain in James Gunn's #TeaserTrailer #LeslaLar #Teaser #trailer
Think you know your Supergirl characters? What about Lesla‑Lar? This silver age character was created by Jerry Siegel & Jim Mooney. She made her first appearance in Action Comics #279 from 1961. Lesla‑Lar is a Kryptonian scientist from the bottled city of Kandor who becomes deeply jealous of Supergirl’s potential fame and freedom. She invents a device to strip Supergirl of her powers — then swaps places with her and impersonates her on Earth. It’s one of the earliest and most “soap‑opera style” identity‑swap arcs in Supergirl lore. She’s one of the very first original Supergirl villains. Her “final appearance in pre‑Crisis continuity” was in The Superman Family #206 (1981), where she — or rather her disembodied intelligence — attempted to possess Supergirl, culminating in a final “astral‐plane” battle. The CW show 'Superman & Lois' does include a character named Leslie Larr, played by actress Stacey Farber, however she was never confirmed to be anything more than human. I wonder if we'll see her in James Gunn's Supergirl or in the teaser trailer set to be released soon.

Who decided Spider-Man should be bitten by a radioactive spider? Stan Lee wanted a relatable, nerdy teen with plausible powers. 🕷️ Steve Ditko designed his look and abilities. #SpiderMan #StanLee #SteveDitko youtube.com/shorts/01zxo...
Who Decided it was SPIDER-Man and not SHADFLY-Man?! #spiderman #marvel #comics #comichistory #comic
So who decided Spider-Man would be bitten by a radioactive spider, and not say, a scorpion, shadfly or wasp? That would be Stan Lee, in later interviews he said "I wanted a character that kids could relate to—a nerdy teenager, bullied at school, gaining powers in a way that was plausible. A spider seemed like a perfect, creepy, scientific source, and it gave him abilities that were unusual and fun—climbing walls, sticking to ceilings, sensing danger." While Lee conceived of the idea Steve Ditko designed the visual look and helped develop the powers and how they would manifest. He often contributed story and conceptual input, including the idea that the character’s abilities would come from a science accident rather than magic. Ditko later confirmed that the spider bite itself was a story device to make Spider-Man’s powers feel scientifically “earned” rather than mystical. Ditko also drew inspiration from actual spiders, including their agility, strength relative to size, and wall-crawling.
