Very excited to share that another project from my postdoc has been published in PNAS! It’s been quite a journey, and I finally feel like I’ve fully transitioned from cell biology into the world of plant developmental biology.
By combining molecular genetics with cell-ablation experiments, we found that vascular cambium stem cells and xylem-identity cells form an interchangeable unit, a stem cell niche. Meticulous work by @xixizhang9001.bsky.social, Ondrej Smetana, Jing Zhang & Xiaoyu Wang 1/x www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

So excited to see my first author paper from my postdoc came out. We identified the vascular cambium stem cell factors CAILs and revealed their positioning mechanism.

Finally out! We identified the stem cell factors (CAILs) of the vascular cambium, and a mechanism involving a ligand sequestration to position the stem cells. This work is a result of fruitful collaboration with @peteretchells.bsky.social and Tusscher labs. 🧵 1/x

Identification of cambium stem cell factors and their positioning mechanism
Wood constitutes the largest reservoir of terrestrial biomass. Composed of xylem, it arises from one side of the vascular cambium, a bifacial stem cell niche that also produces phloem on the opposing ...
