@barnesandnoble.com I appreciate being able to go to the local store and pick something up, employing local workers, etc, but you really need to work on your customer experience. I could have had a paperback delivered for ~½ price, in less time, and way less irritation.

Screw a $2000 dividend, give me what was already promised: the 500%, 600%, 1100%, 1500% discount on my medications. I promise to share my riches with someone not on medication.

I have a feeling they'll show up in my bank account at the same time.

For a long time I had both a Pixel and an iPhone. I would rarely ever see a scam/spam call/text on my Pixel, but the iPhone would have several a week. It did seem to get better over the couple years, and I finally let the number go.

Google Says Androids Get 58% Fewer Scam Texts Than iPhones, but I Have Some Questions
Google is claiming that Android users report getting 58% fewer scam texts than iPhone users, but questions remain about the study's methodology.

November 1 should formally be #ThrowOutThePumpkin day on social media. We wouldn't want them to get any more rotten...

I jumped on Tweeter to keep my account active and made it out mostly unscathed. Interesting that I got an ad from the military industrial complex while there. Feels a little quid-pro-quo'ish to me. ng

It's strange that it took me this long to walk into a store, grab a shopping cart (trolley/buggy) and go:

"Wow! Those wheels and bearings are extremely smooth!"

If you work for a place that offers them, you should test the customer experience of upgrades and maintenance.

So much quickly happening in the background here!

I'm please to say that I've had an enormous response from IT and management at police departments as well as those working in the surveillance tech space.

It turns out a lot of people in law enforcement are uncomfortable with Flock Safety's model.

Anyone else experiencing an issue with the #YouTube app (Android specifically) where all of the video title and channel details don't appear or disappear? Specifically happens on the Subscription feed, but the occasional video in the Home feed is missing details as well.

Thanks again, @timmytechtv.com, for taking me to such an amazing game 10 years ago today. I vividly remember how the crowd shifted from frustrated to elated starting with about 3 minutes left in regulation.

Since Google Reader was abandoned I've been a happy paid subscriber to @feedly.com, primarily to support the service rather than the added features. Most news/blog sites support RSS and some of the social sites do as well (Bluesky, Reddit, YouTube...)

With the right setup, RSS is still one of the most empowering ways to control your online content consumption.

Is there anyone else out there interested in a multiplayer stealth action game? Deus Ex and Thief pedigree.

I don't do well with your typical multiplayer FPS, but stealth action RPG sounds more my style - at least for the first couple playthroughs. Free to play or Web3 BS will kill it for me...

@demiplane.bsky.social as this account could be run by anyone, you should be using your own domain to verify your account. Look to @bsky.app for instructions to use a DNS TXT entry or a .well-known file to link account handles to your domain.

I have to assume how I feel is similar to what a Gen A-ite(? -er?) feels upon learning the save icon represents an outdated storage medium.

#til origin of bits and the bit bucket
Those punched out holes are literal bits. If you put a bucket under the chute to catch the chad, that would be a bit bucket. A term I've heard my whole life and didn't realize it was literal.

@bsky.app I'm on a mini crusade to get companies to verify their identities using DNS TXT records or .well-known endpoints and I need help. I want to be succinct, accurate and helpful.

What does the marketing team think I should say (specific terms, etc)? Which link is definitive for more info?

If I can setup the TXT record to authenticate my account, you can too.

@xkcd.com in reference to Advent Calendar Advent Calendar xkcd.com/3019 and the 12 Days of Christmas hover text, how far into the 12 Days would you get before you run out of the necessarily calories to support the "gifts" and need to dip into the livestock?

I did the thing with my own domain! It was surprisingly easy once I moved to my desktop and figured out my phone wouldn't show all of the DNS record options.

Now to pay myself $3/month - and maybe update my old Blogger account...

I'm wondering what the modern term should replace armchair in "armchair quarterback."

I can't call myself an "armchair machinist" or an "armchair 3D animator" if I don't even own an armchair let alone watch YouTube from one.

"Arms length?"
"Toilet seat?"

If we posted our public information (e.g. posts and "tweets") with a simple encryption mechanism, i.e. ROT13, then any unauthorized decryption would be against the DMCA.

Wouldn't this give some level of recourse against AI companies using that data for training?
