7:30AM: Temperatures this morning are very cold. Wind chills are in the teens and single digits across our area. Most of the wintry precip is over and done with. We'll have several hard freezes in the morning we'll have to deal with this week.

9:08PM: A wave of freezing rain and sleet is moving through the San Antonio area right now. There is another wave moving in from Mexico. We'll get a brief small break for a bit before that wave moves in.

4:57PM: Tracking our next wave of precipitation now coming into radar view over the mountains of Mexico. As this arrives in our area, road conditions will deteriorate with freezing rain/ice.

1:37AM: Rainfall totals NW of San Antonio have been impressive. Doppler estimates of almost 5" in Bandera county. Around the San Antonio area, a few hundredths of an inch but over half an inch in northern Bexar county.

WINTER STORM WARNING UPDATE: NWS has changed the start time of the Winter Storm Warning to 3pm. Originally it was set to start at 6pm tomorrow.

10:25PM: Cold front has moved through Comfort and Kerrville. Should be in San Antonio within the hour. Flood Advisories issued west of SA. Wintry precipitation is falling in the panhandle.

WINTER STORM WARNING EXPANDED: This now includes Bexar county and San Antonio from Saturday 6pm through Sunday 12pm. This is due to increased threat for freezing rain/ice accumulations.

WEATHER ALERTS ISSUED: NWS has now issued a Winter Storm Watch for ice and sleet accumulations and Extreme Cold Watch for cold temps. We still could see the potential for freezing rain here in San Antonio starting on Saturday morning that could linger through midday on Sunday.

TODAY: This morning we made it down to 28° in San Antonio. This is the 4th latest freeze on record. Also, the NWS will not be issuing any more freeze warnings for Bexar county this winter season because they only highlight the first killing freeze. Exception would be late season freeze.

SATURDAY UPDATE: Wind gusts will increase today up to 30 mph. With the low humidity a fire threat is present. Overnight, winds will decrease allowing temps to fall. I'm expecting a low of 29° in SA for Sunday morning. Wind chills in the low to mid 20s. Remember 4 Ps: People, Pets, Plants, Pipes.

FIRE THREAT: As a cold front moves through the area, I expect winds to increase this evening and again tomorrow. Lower humidity is expected tomorrow hence the high fire danger. A Red Flag Warning has been issued from 10am-8pm on Saturday.

FIRST FREEZE: It's looking more likely that San Antonio will have its first freeze Sunday morning. I'm expecting a low temp of 30°. Wind chills could be in the mid 20s. The good news is that afternoon temps will be near 60°. This is a good time to prepare for the cold temps.

DROUGHT UPDATE: Today's drought monitor showed the extreme category expanding across much of South Texas. We need rain and I do see rain chances going up for next week.

WINDY DAY: As of 8:30am, a cold front was getting closer to the San Antonio area. Once the front moves through, winds will increase. Expect sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph this morning. There is a wildfire threat throughout the day so be careful.

MORE STORMS: The latest hi-res model data (as of Friday 1am) is showing an increase in coverage of showers and storms on Friday. The Marginal Risk expanded a bit more into Bexar county. Hail and gusty winds possible.

WE DID IT: San Antonio officially reached 89° this afternoon. This breaks the old record of 86° set back in 2006 for this date and TIES the all time highest temperature recorded for the month of January.

3PM UPDATE: We've jumped another degree to 88°. We are now one degree away from tying the all time record high in January here in San Antonio.

AS OF FRIDAY EARLY AFTERNOON: The unoffical high at San Antonio Int'l was 87°. This breaks the old record of 86° set back in 2006. The all time record high for January is 89° set back in 1971.

NEXT 7 DAYS: If you're not a fan of these cold temps, I have good news for you. Temperatures will gradually warm up each afternoon. However, we'll still have to get through some cold mornings the next couple of days. Temps will warm into the 80s by Friday.
