J. Rosamond Johnson was the younger brother of poet and activist James Weldon Johnson, who wrote the lyrics for "Lift Every Voice and Sing." #Harlem

Marcus Garvey was born in Jamaica in 1887. In 1914, he founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) to promote Black self-sufficiency and encourage a return to Africa. It attracted a large international community with two million members across thirty branches. #Harlem
