First stop today was Zuydcoote Military Cemetery. I paid my respects to Gunner Harry Wayman of Carshalton - 12 years ago I helped to reunite his death plaque with his family but this was the first time I had visited his grave

Fascinating photos of Bourlon Wood taken by Private Charles Oliver Irish of the 54th Battalion CEF.

Bourlon Wood was devasted during the fighting of Battle of Canal du Nord in September 1918. These photos were taken in the aftermath.

OTD in 1917 119th inf brigade took Bourlon Wood ,key high ground dominating the north of the Cambrai battlefield, and held it for three days. They suffered horrendous casualties.
