When it comes to the Epstein list, I think Trump supporters are just going to turn on a dime. We've always been at war with East Asia, etc.

Oh wait the row is on, LOL
Kind of boring that Musk just seems to be melting away rather than having a fallout with his master, but this still fits with the 9 - 12 month prediction.

The recent thing about DOGE discovering that non-citizens get social security numbers just illustrates a common problem: a lot of people here don't know their own laws.

It's completely normal to have SSN's as non-citizens. They're used for tax purposes. A SSN doesn't indicate citizenship.

Whenever there's some news in the AI world, it's always accompanied by "it's so over for X", where X is some group.

This is getting pretty tiring, honestly.

Everybody is suddenly finding out that the U.S. immigration system is inhumane. Great! It was before Trump, too.

Donald Trump uses the subjunctive, though with quite an odd sentence construction. The former indicates he didn't write it, the latter does.

My own theory about Trump 2.0:

Democrats always want to show continuity, so they keep the policies of the past administration.

Republicans, especially under Trump, need to show the opposite. So even if they started something, they have to end it out of principle.

I only learned to use em dash correctly two years ago and now I'm told it's an AI conspiracy :(

An interesting point, though I think the Redeemers might be a better fit for Trump's presidency in general — there is no need to formally change the system, just to use various forms of intimidation to grab and keep power.
People who are scholars of European history, as I am not, point out parallels to 1930s rise of fascism there.

I have spent more time learning about China. Which is why I keep thinking about parallels to Cultural Revolution nihilism. (Article Jeremy Mayer)

I think Trump should partner with Shen Yun performing arts and set up a new show to revive 250 years of American history

I'm starting to get fed up with all of these "Trump's policies are a gift to China", "Trump will make China great again" etc. People really have some serious zero-sum mentality going on these days.

Do humans naturally gravitate towards monarchy? It doesn't have to be monarchy by definition, it's more a mental state. Like when people are standing in line with gifts to the emperor, or try to find meaning in his ramblings even when there is none.

When reading about a certain somebody renaming places, I started thinking about something else that's related — place names that are completely different in different languages. Like:

Östersund (Swedish) — Staare (Sami)
Åbo (Swedish) - Turku (Finnish)
Åland (Swedish) - Ahvenanmaa (Finnish)

I just realized that the TikTok ban happens on a Sunday. How is anything supposed to happen if it's not on a business day?

Whenever I see pictures of demonstrations in other countries and notice signs in English, I know they're there to affect journalists in the Anglosphere, for good and bad. I often get the feeling that the journalists don't realize this, though.

Today's reflection: When Trump talks about getting Greenland, it's thought of as a joke. But if it had been anywhere else in the world, it would have been taken seriously on both sides of the aisle. Remember Iraq.

I have a solution for these kinds of things. Prohibit that app, what's it called, TikTok. Then everything's safe:
