TONIGHT is our one-off show of the new 4K restoration of Luchino Visconti's penultimate film, 1974's CONVERSATION PIECE! Showtime 7pm. Starring an Italian-dubbed Burt Lancaster as a reclusive art lover and with Helmut Berger ("the most beautiful boy in the world") and Silvana Mangano.

TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY at 7pm each night we're showing the new 4K restoration of Mamoru Oshii's live-action 1987 film THE RED SPECTACLES! Oshii is best known for 1995's Ghost in the Shell, but he has a wide and interesting body of work that is underseen in America.

TONIGHT is our one-off show of the 1995 Mamoru Oshii classic GHOST IN THE SHELL! Showtime 7pm in its unrestored, Japanese language / English subbed version, no trailers, movie promptly at 7. Starting tomorrow we're running Oshii's 1987 live action debut The Red Spectacles, newly restored in 4K!

TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY we are showing the new 4K restoration of QUEEN KELLY from our pals over at @milestonefilms.bsky.social! Erich von Stroheim's legendary 1929 film is the one Norma and Joe sit down to watch in her living room in reel 2 of Sunset Boulevard. Showtime 7pm all weekend.

TONIGHT we are doing Billy Wilder's 1950 classic SUNSET BOULEVARD, projected from a 35mm print on a reel-to-reel changeover system! Showtime 7pm, our usual pricing of $7-8 applies. This weekend we run the new 4K restoration of 1929's Queen Kelly, from SB's Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim.

TONIGHT is the final Adjanuary show, 1981's QUARTET, which we rescheduled from 1/27 to tonight. Made/released the same year as Possession, Quartet is a Merchant Ivory film for which Adjani won Best Actress at Cannes and at the Césars jointly between those two (very different) movies. Showtime 7pm.

TONIGHT we return to Isabelle Adjani in POSSESSION, which show was rescheduled from its snowed out 1/25 date. Showtime 7pm. Tomorrow brings the rescheduled Quartet, and after that, our successful Adjanuary series is complete (with a little Adjebruary thrown in for good measure).

TONIGHT we start to wind down the Adjanuary program with 1994's QUEEN MARGOT, her fourth César win for Best Actress, and the newest film we have in Adjanuary! Showtime 7pm. This coming week we have two Adjanuary reschedules--Possession on Tuesday and Quartet on Wednesday--and then the program ends.

TONIGHT Adjanuary continues with the 1988 CAMILLE CLAUDEL, for which Isabelle Adjani won her third César and was nominated for Best Actress at the American Oscars for the second time. Directed by her ex-husband Bruno Nuytten, who is also DP on Possession (returning here on Tuesday). Showtime 7pm.

Just received word that campus is again closed on Tuesday, January 27, thereby forcing us to POSTPONE our planned screening of QUARTET. Look for a reschedule date to be announced soon, but in any case, there will be no show of it on 1/27. Stay safe out there!

Head's up: Sunday (1/25)'s scheduled show of POSSESSION is POSTPONED; campus is preemptively closed due to the storm. We'll reschedule that show for some Tuesday in February; look for a date to be announced soon. But don't come on Sunday! We won't be here!

TONIGHT is the second and final show of Werner Herzog's 1979 version of NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE, playing as part of Adjanuary, and starring Klaus Kinski, Isabelle Adjani, and Bruno Ganz! Showtime 7pm. This is a relatively early role for Adjani and Herzog sure knows how to harness her haunted stare.

TONIGHT Adjanuary continues with our one and only show of François Truffaut's 1975 film The Story of Adèle H. at 7pm! Screening in 35mm and with an intro and post-film discussion from Cliff Froehlich, retired executive director of Cinema St. Louis. 19-year-old Adjani got an Oscar nom for this one!

Victor Putinier, PhD candidate in French & Francophone Studies and Film & Media Studies at WashU, will be on hand to introduce & facilitate a post-screening discussion. Possession reruns 1/25 w/o Victor.

This weekend brings the FINAL SHOWS of Bi Gan's latest wonder, RESURRECTION, which we've been so happy to host the St. Louis exclusive run of! It plays 7pm tonight through Sunday, and Sunday only also brings a rare-for-us matinee at 2pm. Don't miss what is easily one of the best films of 2025!

Our Adjanuary program soft opens TONIGHT with Werner Herzog's 1979 NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE at 7pm! With Adjani, Klaus Kinski, Bruno Ganz (Wings of Desire). Seeing Nosferatu on a cold, rainy night in an old church can't be beaten. Big Adjanuary events start next week!

TONIGHT we return with our proper run of Bi Gan's astonishing new film, RESURRECTION, starring Shu Qi, which we played to great acclaim as a sneak preview last month! Showtime 7pm tonight through Sunday, then returns again 1/9-11 (including a matinee on 1/11).
