Very proud new faculty member moment to see two of my exceptional students recognized for their capstone research. Congratulations to all of this year's award recipients and grads at @sfuspp.bsky.social!
Congratulations to the 2025 recipients of the Capstone and Project Awards! The Capstone gives graduate students the opportunity to undertake independent research on a policy problem of their own choosing.

Want lower power bills and a cleaner grid? Interprovincial transmission could be a true nation-building project. Great read from @blakeshaffer.bsky.social and Philipe Dunsky
If Canada is looking for nation-building projects that improve affordability, enhance reliability, reduce our reliance on the US, and set us up for the future, don’t have to look much further than interprovincial transmission.

By me and Philippe Dunsky:

Canada needs a nation-building project. It should start with interprovincial power transmission
The future is electric – and Canada should leverage its provinces’ complementary strengths and needs to build an east-to-west network and reach our full energy potential

“Canada is such a northern country, don’t we want a little global warming?” I often hear.

In a nutshell, NO.

We’re warming 2x faster than the rest of the world, driving extreme heat, flood, and sea level rise we are not prepared for. The wildfire season started in Feb this year. Feb!

Awesome defense by @wscott.bsky.social using an impressive array of methods to look at emission, cost, innovation, and distributional effects of overlapping climate policies in California. Well worth the trip from the East to the South Bay!

This chart shows annual hours of smoke-filled skies in Calgary from 1953 to 2023.

As the first wildfire smoke of the 2024 season blew in this week, it's hard to convey the sadness it elicited in a lot of folks.

There's a growing realization this is our new reality. And a genuine sense of mourning.

Thrilled to see the conversation in #econsky #energysky and #greensky emerging after the downfall of that other place.

Looking forward to chatting all things energy and climate policy, along with the occasional dog/mountain pic.
