It's a time capsule! Following an archaeological assessment conducted over the phone by me, a 2p coin dates this to no earlier than 1990. Further investigations into what I put inside the time capsule will take place on my next visit.

My mum was digging in the garden and found either a time capsule or the coffin of a family pet. I know I buried it, but I can't remember when or why. She's reluctant to open it.

Brilliant piece on this morning’s #bbcr4today programme about the Melsonby Iron Age assemblage. Will be sharing this piece and the insights of @profaliceroberts.bsky.social with our pupils. #archaeology #primaryhistory #yorkshire

Little update! I've been busy repacking finds in the archive @ducollections.bsky.social.

Not started researching and cataloguing them yet, but will do once the objects are securely packed. The top left is part of a lead toy gun. Bottom right a medieval pilgrim's ampulla. Lots of variety! 😍

Due to circumstances entirely within my control, I'm over a year behind on @loremen.bsky.social 😱

Will be catching up on all things folklore over the coming days.

Enjoyed the late afternoon Spring sun on a lovely little loop around Ulgham Nature Reserve, Northumberland.

A giant dragline bucket called the Ace of Spades now rests as public art. Ace once excavated 100 tonnes of earth per scoop at Stobswood Quarry opencast mine.

Rejuvenating little walk on the Yorkshire Wolds Way near Welton today.

Raikes' mausoleum, built 1818, was sealed up in the 1960's after it was desecrated and a skull stolen. The skull was found near the Humber estuary. #eastyorkshire #humber #trees

I've started repacking the religious objects in the River Wear Collection. Here's a medieval lead ampulla (c. 13th-15th century) with scallop shell design. It would have held holy water, a souvenir bought by a pilgrim visiting Durham.

My first thought: "I need that cat."

👀 My second thought: "What's the best collection of Algernon Blackwood's works that's available on ebay right now?"
ICYMI - The Herbert from Hob's Barrow limited edition plush toy is now available via Makeship!

On sale until February 26th. A must for the discerning folk horror/cursed cat fan!

Re-watched 'Basic Instinct', it'd been a while (20 years?). So, so good. Very jealous of Catherine Tremmel's literary career and cliff-side villa.

I forgot Assistant Director Skinner is in it.
