The rain is a throb of fat drumbeats, incessant and unending. Smog and carbonic acid sizzle on flickering LED displays and turn out-of-tune holo-ads into electronic abstracts. One of the only things still the same about the Northwest US, it always fracking rains.

To other writers out there, are you ambiguous about what you're going to write and keep writing? In college I've been told that over and over to expect surprises, U Turns, and let the characters tell the story. This seems incomprehensible to me.
