I went on a lil adventure last weekend
I needed a place to practice driving stick shift so I went looking for trails nearby. "The rewards at the top include columnar basalt," said the website. I got in and clutched and gearshifted out of the parking lot on a long drive out to a short trail called either Mount Peak Pinnacle Park or Cal Magnusson and walked just about straight up to a lookout tower on top. I saw some bugs and some firefighters and two couples on second dates and someone knitting in the shade of the lookout tower. I called Grandmama with the video on so she could see what I said and showed her the view of what I think was Tacoma.

little glances in the dark
rain like thunder on the windshield
Calypso hides behind the blanket in her crate at the vet, one little eye and two little ears poking out to the world. She looks sad, somehow. Turns out she has a hernia. Calypso takes a break from attacking my feet to roll her head toward the light and flex her little toes. Her belly is still shaved from getting spayed. She has strange, glomular patterns like cowhide on her belly and I wonder if her fur will match when it grows back…

I’ve been taking pictures of this little intersection again. It’s interesting to scroll through my camera roll and track the onset of spring. I was pleased with this one: I like the way the sun sits behind a criss-cross of power lines, obliterating the dark lines to an invisible shine in the center of the sun’s body. The morning’s shine bounces through the windshield, hits my hands clutching my phone, and projects a ghost of them into the blank blue of the upper-left, serendipitously framed by the “L” of the lines as they travel off into the distance of the photo’s perspectives. Good luck out there! It’s not all the way weird and bad and scary right now.

It cost me $478 to get a replacement key programmed to work on my car but at least I saw some nice pretty morning skies
The maps app took me along a road I didn’t know existed that snakes down the hill toward Tacoma’s harbor and circles around the backsides of stacks and stacks of shipping crates. The crates pyramided down to a big ol’ furrow in the dirt with these massive power poles holding their wires up in front of the yellow morning horizon, in front of the scribble of thin grey clouds. Their powerlines zipped over my head in bunches of long straight rows, joining the hands of the power poles sticking up from behind the trees next to the road. “Now entering Pierce County” the sign by the stoplight said. I turned left into the endless strip malls of Fife by Interstate Five and the maps app deposited me at an Infiniti dealership, where a a guy named Chad took twenty percent off my bill to have a new key programmed to work on my car because I have the same name as his son. I paid him four-hundred and seventy-eight dollars.

I was first in line at my favorite intersection again the blue didn’t break this time
I haven’t been at the front of the red light for a while- the roads have been nearly empty this week and the last in the mornings. Today there was a strange strip of orange behind the Safeway where Mt. Rainier usually is. When I got further into the valley I thought I’d be able to see the base of the mountain, but it was just 45 mph farmland, stripe of orange, curtain of splotchy purple clouds.

I've been thinking about powerlines a lot recently
I've been thinking about powerlines a lot recently. I drive through this intersection everyday I go to work. There's a great number of powerlines that form a lattice in front of the sky here, one set coming from a great height up the hill behind me and the others crisscrossing below them on their way through the intersection. The intersection looks a little different everyday. The sunlight or the stoplights or the carlights shine on the pavement and glitter a little differently everday. The cars crisscross across the pavement in a different pattern and I sit there, waiting a little longer or shorter or not at all before I crisscross downhill. The powerlines frame a different part of the sky, or cut a different angle across the clouds and trees or line up a little differently everymorning. Sometimes the clouds get between the Safeway and Mount Rainier. Sometimes Mount Rainier is the only thing between me and the sunrise. Somedays I wonder how the powerpoles are made.

good morning everybody :)
I knew I was going to have a busy day so I wore my favorite pieces of clothing my favorite people gave to me: the camel-colored llama-wool hat from Connell and the black and beige two-tone scarf from Tessa and the black and brown houndstooth coat that grandmama made for grandaddy that mama solemnly gave to me that I took the shoulder pads out of. I looked at the clock and found that somehow I was ahead of schedule this morning. I propped the phone up on the bookshelf and set the timer for three, and leapt across the living room onto the sofa, a bewildered look and a blurry thumbs-up flying toward the camera. I feel pretty and powerful and clad in love today and I hope you have an opportunity to feel the same soon.

Oh it’s mushroom season in the, woods
I came around the bend of the trail to a familiar bench and I smelled mushrooms. I smelled nothing but mushrooms, close in my nostrils like dirt and butter. I noticed the cluster of caps and startled. My brain filled in an animal for a split second. The sprawl came almost up to my waist. I saw more of them all along my walk. I swear these weren’t here last week. I sent a photo of these weird fungi to my Grandmama and she replied with “What hath God wrought !!!” She used to call them “Turkey Tail Fungus” according to her text. My dad said that you can eat ‘em but they’ll hurt your stomach. And give you nasty”———

I went for a walk in the woods and after watching my feet plonk through the mud and leaves I looked up and found myself staring at a cascade of draping folds of pink and beige mushroom with white lace gills clung to the side of a sawn tree trunk. I stopped thinking about work for a moment.
