Richard Angell notes: the original HIV advocates are no longer with us, but their legacy lives on. Their work shifted the focus of advocacy from a death sentence to prevention. Dr Pike reflects on similar progress with cervical cancer. Two important examples to learn from. #35AEC

Dr Joanne Pike highlights the uphill climb of getting new treatments to patients in part because the first disease-modifying Alzheimer's drug was approved via the FDA accelerated approval pathway. The experience showed the vital role of advocacy & public education for the next two approvals #35AEC

At #35AEC @richardangell.bsky.social from the Terence Higgins Trust made a powerful point in our session: "Not acting on Alzheimer’s is the ultimate economic" failure. The global cost of dementia is a clear call to action for governments to invest in diagnostics and treatments.
