Winston Churchill addressed Parliament on the 18th recognizing the battle as a U.S. victory.

Corrections since I messed up the dates. On January 3rd, 1993, U.S. president George H. W. Bush and Russian president Boris Yeltsin signed the strategic arms reduction treaty known as START II, the second such treaty signed between the two states intended to decrease nuclear warhead stockpiles.

On January 4th, 1944, U.S. Army Air Force B-24 bombers departed from Harrington, England, to fly toward northwestern France to drop supplies to assist the French resistance, beginning Operation Carpetbagger. The planes were painted glossy black to evade searchlights during the nighttime deliveries.
