At the Harris County Commissioners Court, Woori Juntos' Senior Fellows gathered with a clear and powerful message. These Senior Fellows were not just testifying for themselves; they were speaking on behalf of their communities and future generations.
Recently, there has been a pressing need for proper prevention and response to the increasing dangers and crimes in the Harris County area.⁠ In particular, within immigrant families or the Korean community, there have been many cases where conflicts at home or issues between parents and children have worsened or led to unforeseen incidents after calling 911, due to inappropriate police responses.⁠ In such cases, I believe that the HART team, which consists of more professionally trained personnel, can address the root causes of the issues without the need for police involvement, depending on the nature of the situation.⁠ Given the positive effects that the HART program has shown in Districts 1 and 4, I urge that it be implemented throughout all of Harris County. Additionally, I hope that promotional materials, such as brochures or marketing tools, will be developed alongside this program so that more people can take advantage of the HART program.⁠ To achieve this, I earnestly request that you allocate the budget needed for expanding the diversity and reach of the HART program by freezing the budget for sheriffs and patrol officers, and reducing the budget for the district attorney’s office.
