Gotta admit, this is the first time my words have appeared in USA Today (at least to my knowledge). No, I'm not quoted in the article, but, in spite of the credit given to an Air Force General, I coined the phrase "nuclear sponge" to describe the strategy of maintaining lots of aim points (1)

The fundamental issue IS NOT a land swap. The fundamental issue is Ukraine's sovereignty and Russia's insistence on addressing the "root causes" of this conflict in a peace deal. Russia has said REPEATEDLY that the "root causes" are Ukraine's existence as a nation and NATO enlargement.
Witkoff: "The fundamental issue, which is some sort of land swap, which is obviously ultimately in the the control of the Ukrainians, that could not have been discussed at this meeting. We intend to discuss it on Monday."

WTF does this mean. He says he’ll unilaterally set a price, I.e a tariff level. But that’s not the price to “shop” here, it’s the cost American consumers will pay if the country wants to sell here.
