On June 12, 1948, former President Harry S. Truman signed the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, legally permitting women to serve in all branches of the military.

Today, women in military services represent 17.5% of all Active Duty Personnel and 21.6% of all National Guard & Reserves.

On Feb. 1, 1960, Joseph McNeil & 3 fellow college students from North Carolina A&T took a stand against segregation by simply sitting down at a lunch counter. It became a pivotal moment in Civil Rights.

The 6888th was an all-Black battalion of the US Women's Army Corps (WAC) that managed postal services. The 6888th had 855 women and was led by Major Charity Adams. The 6888th was a self-sufficient unit.
