Great premise, but it is poorly explored and executed.

The cinematography in this French silent classic from 1930 is so fluid & sophisticated- a mix of German, American & Soviet styles- it makes it even more obvious that it is a skill (like editing) that has declined in modern filmmaking.

And like a weird Planet of the Apes movie.
Was waiting for the scene where they worship an atomic bomb at St Patrick's Cathedral.

1776 was the highlight of these rewatches. Crazy how underseen and underappreciated it is. Hysterical and very enjoyable, almost 3 hr movie version of the Broadway play.
