Hi Bluesky! 👋 We're Minerva & Samuel. We love exploring the US whenever we’re not working our 9-to-5s.

We’re not full-time travelers, but we make the most of the time we have. If you’re into hiking, road trips & National Parks, stick around. Excited to see what this space is all about!

Ours would be Yosemite. It's the park that we road tripped to and spent 2 weeks at during our honeymoon ❤️

This is how we like to travel 🚗 We have a very general list of things we'd like to see, and then take the day to see what we can see #ParkChat

That’s a wrap for this week’s #ParkChat!

Thank you for spending your evening with us and sharing your stories and perspectives on The Comfort of Certainty on Trails! We loved reading everyone's replies!

This community is what makes these chats special. See you next time & happy trails! 🥾

Q11: #ParkChat

After all that planning, checking, and preparing…

What’s one thing you don’t want to know before a hike or trip?
January 29, 2026 at 2:56 AM
My mind would have been racing before, and I'd be laughing and dying on the floor after the realization 😂😂 #ParkChat

We believe everyone should have access to National Parks.

But when encouragement becomes an overcrowding problem, what can National Parks do to help control the numbers of visitors other than what is currently being done already?

We love sharing photos from our travels, but as AI becomes more common, we’ve been thinking about how much viewers can trust what they see.

Is AI generated art about nature still “nature art”? Where’s the line between enhancing a photo vs fabricating one?

I have some hearing loss in my right ear and this is my thought process, too! When sleeping at home, if there is any noise outside, I rotate my deaf-er ear up and, poof, it's gone. Or, well, reduced #ParkChat

I'm sure my dad still has mine from when I was a kid. It was thick, comfy and kept me warm! #ParkChat

Q8: #ParkChat

Our two dogs are family, and we love bringing them along on adventures when trails and parks allow. One is a senior and the other has endless energy.

For those who explore parks with your dogs: what’s one piece of dog gear you never hike without, and why?

Q7: #ParkChat

Ads push new gear promising to be lighter, faster, smarter, etc. But sometimes the older stuff works just fine (if not better).

What older piece of gear do you still trust more than the newer versions? Why has it earned that trust for you?

Q6: #ParkChat

Most of our hikes are out-and-back, and we haven’t done an overnight backpacking trip yet.

For those who have: what nighttime animal sounds were the hardest to get used to? Did they ever keep you awake?

As a scientist, I love the idea of a #ParkChatMathWeek! That's something I'd love to nerd out about!

We climbed Half Dome in 2022 and there was a moment going up the cables when I thought I couldn’t do it.

What was the hike that changed your risk tolerance? What happened? Are you working to overcome the emotion and give it a go later on?
January 29, 2026 at 2:24 AM
Yes!!! Nothing worse than thinking, "huh, I should have packed that" #ParkChat

I like the idea of addressing the points of failure and having fallbacks. Best to be aware of how things can break and have a plan in case that could happen #ParkChat

Q4: #ParkChat

While we hiked in the Smokies, a severe thunderstorm rolled in, the trail became a river & we became very focused on getting out safely.

Was there a time when your trip was suddenly impacted by weather. Was it an unanticipated thunderstorm, tornado, snow storm, etc? What did you do?
January 29, 2026 at 2:18 AM
We watched someone summit Half Dome with nothing more than flip flops and a water bottle once. You'd think they would have at least put on shoes! #ParkChat

This is what we like to do, too. Enough to know what we are getting into, but we don't need to know everything #ParkChat
