When we were leaving Portstewart today, we saw two porpoise in fading light.
We were so lucky to see them

Mrs Wings & Space introduced me to Portstewart on the north Antrim coast today. My first time there. We arrived in time for sunset.
It was mind blowing.

Dunluce Castle, the seat of Clan MacDonnell.

In the 13th century, Richard Óg de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Ulster, built the first castle at Dunluce. It was first documented to be in the hands of the McQuillan family in 1513.

A lot of history here

Dunseverick Castle, or what little remains.

Recorded in the Irish Annals as Dun Sobhairce, Dunseverick Castle, first fortified by an ancient chieftain, Sobhairce, from around the 5th century AD.
Twice attacked by the Vikings around 871 and 924 AD. Destroyed by a Scottish army in 1642.

My first time visiting the Dark Hedges since I've been here 21yrs in Northern Ireland
This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. Now probably more famous for their feature in the popular Game of Thrones®

@stonelands.bsky.social just came across your account today & enjoyed many of your posts.

A couple of weeks ago I visited Beaghmore near Omagh on a sunny frosty day. I thought you may enjoy the photos.

Took a 30 min break from driving today when the sky cleared and stopped by Beaghmore Stone Circles, not far from Omagh.
Carbon dated to around 2,600 - 2,900 BC, with 7 circles (6 pairs) plus 10 stone rows & 12 burial cairns. 1,269 stones total.
Ground was still frosted in the shade

Wait a minute, did it snow watermelon? No, that's snow algae. It's seen only at high altitudes in cold conditions, it's not safe to eat (unless you like diarrhea), and the various algae colors make the landscape very attractive...

In Canyonlands National Park, potholes are natural sandstone basins that act as tiny, self-contained ecosystems. Also called ephemeral pools, they collect rainwater and sediment, supporting a surprising variety of desert life.

Sunset Colours

One thing I really like about the summer equinox is how we get these long, slow sunsets, full of gradients and colours.
