Miles Magister T9736. Southeast England, circa Sept. 1940
This one is scratchbuilt in 1/144 using styrene throughout and the markings are for a machine that was modified to take part in Operation Banquet. I'm quite pleased with how this one came out. It's a cutie!

All finished. This is V1Models' 1/144 scale Short Crusader from the 1927 Schneider Trophy race in Venice.
It's a cutie! :)

Clear parts are my nemesis.
This one needed 3x panes and 12x strips of painted decal to make up the frames 👿

Time taken to reduce panel lines is always time well spent. I used some Scotch tape as a guide and lightly traced them in with a sharp .3mm pencil, then ran a brush over them until they looked less stark.

The V1Models kit doesn't come with a launching trolley, so one was made from scratch. It's good to have something to do between coats of primer :)

Lots of work smoothing and priming the surfaces, reducing panel lines, and thinning down trailing edges for a more in-scale appearance. Also replaced the struts and opened up the access hatch to make the thing look more inviting :)

This is the 1/144 scale Short Crusader of Schneider Trophy fame from V1Models in Japan. It's a 3D-printed piece and the designer has really put their heart and soul into it. I'm hoping that with a bit of TLC I can get it across the finish line 😊

Took a few more shots before putting this one back in the cabinet.
Fellow DH.2 aficionados will recognise the tailplane trim lever on the right-hand side of the cockpit. Plus the fluted Lewis drum, and the buckle on the strap which holds down the cover over the main fuel tank.

I just heard that my 1/144 scratchbuilding book, First World War Aircraft In Scale, will soon get a second print run. Sweeeet! 😊

...aaaaand we're done! :D
I added the last of the rigging over the weekend. Hard to believe the 1/144 Jeannin Stahltaube is finally done after 14 months of solid effort. I'm all out of words at the moment, so I'll just leave some pics here...

Having a flashback to 10 years ago and the very first kit I completed after returning to the hobby ~ Eduard's Spitfire IX converted to a MkI.
I was quite proud of this back in the day. That faded a bit when it was pointed out that the windscreen was all wrong for an early model Spit... Ah well! 😅

Got the left wing fully rigged today!

I went the extra mile and used 0.05mm for the thicker structural wires and 0.02mm for the control cables.

Now for the rest of it... 💪

Finally got the scratchbuilt spoked wheels finished today after a year of trial and error (mostly error). It was a close-run thing though... they nearly finished ME! 💀

This is what I've been working on for the last 12 months. It's easily the hardest scratchbuilding project I've ever done.

1915 vintage, Jeannin Stahltaube ~ 1/144 scale 🖖

Here's a work-in-progress shot of two Nieuport 17s which I built for my book on scratchbuilding 1/144 scale aircraft.
Please note: it's 220 pages and regular softcover. Not, "192 pages & spiral bound". Dunno where Amazon got that from 😅

This is the FE.2's little brother, the Airco DH.2.
It was built as part of my book on 1/44 scratchbuilding and took about 8 months to complete. 😪
One day I hope to complete the RFC pusher family by doing the Vickers FB.5 and RAF FE.8 too! 🤞
